Birthday Meal - Steak in Red Wine Jus

I cooked a lovely steak in red wine jus for Greg's birthday! It was really yummy! 
I served it with lettuce, tomatoes, mushrooms and sweet potato chips! 


I put the sweet potato chips in the oven for 30 minutes and whilst that was in, I started off the red wine jus.


Ready in just 20 minutes. Pour 250ml beef stock into a saucepan and reduce by half. Then add 125ml red wine, 2 teaspoons of dark brown sugar and 1 teaspoon of balsamic vinegar. Leave to cook for another 10 minutes over a high heat or until the sauce has reduced by half again. It should be thicker. Season to taste and serve.




I coated the sirloin steak fillets in oil, mixed herbs and garlic salt. I seared it on the griddle pan with 2 minutes each side, then popped it into the oven. 


Then I put the mushrooms and the tomatoes on to griddle! 

Et voila! 


I put French dressing over the iceberg lettuce. The sauce was absolutely delicious - we did actually put more than 125ml of red wine into it!! 
We had nachos to start and crème brûlée for pudding. We didn't make the pudding this time, though I do have a recipe that I will definitely try out at some point! 

It's made me hungry writing this post, i will definitely have to re-make it at some point!
